sustainability

eco tourism comes with huge responsibility

Caring for the environment is non contractual in our industry.  And rightly so, our customers and partners expect businesses to have strong environmental policies stating how they intend to operate whilst minimising the effects on the natural environment. For us, it comes from the heart.

We don’t need to offer to plant a tree for every booking received as that’s green-washing and simply not enough. Instead, here’s the real action:

  • We will publicise our environmental sustainability policy and live by it to be improved annually and aligned to VisitScotland’s Responsible Tourism Agenda.
  • We will maintain our accreditation and membership of ‘Leave No Trace’ charity, abiding by their ethos and practices.
  • We will continue to partner with Planet Patrol and organise our monthly litter picks at key coastal venues including the gyre of the river Irvine.
  • We will continue to be a plastic free business and pledge to use the Surfers Against Sewage Community Grassroots toolkit for inspiration and education.
  • We will continue to invest in training and education in marine and environmental protection by joining the International Tourism Panel for Climate Change.
  • We pledge to continue offering means of carbon reducing modes of transport to and from our locations, offering car sharing and opportunities for clients to join us at public transport stations.
  • We will change from plug in electric inflation pumps which require an idiling running vehicle to battery operated products by 2025.
  • Our new fleet of I-sups will be purchased from the most environmentally conscious of retailers who are plastic free, B-Corp and who share the same values as we do
  • We will continue to support the work of charities such as Seaful, Ocean Conservation Trust, UNEP, NatureScot, LLNP, UNESCO GSA Biosphere, Arran Coast and SeaWilding.
  • We will continue to educate paddlers on the effects of disturbing wildlife, resting seals, nesting burds and conduct our sessions considering the impacts of paddleboards on the foreshore.
  • We will wash our kit using environmentally friendly products such as SUMA
  • We will continue to partner with BIOMATE Brushes to help clean equipment after use to help prevent the spread of non native invasive species and plant life.
  • We aim to have no single use plastic on any of our tours, sessions and courses
  • We will monitor our emissions using the VisitScotland Carbon Action Guide and CO2 calculator
  • We pledge to move away from oil based fabrics such a neoprene to more Yulex rubber products which are less harmful for the marine environment
  • During our Terra and Living Wild over night tours we will abide by Leave No Trace and Scottish Outdoor Access Code by staying no more than one night in a location and will offer 10% of any profits from tours to the local community charity or events as part of our community return and Tourism cares pledge.
  • We will offer Milk and perishables in plastic free containers suitable for reuse
  • We will wash our paddling kit in guppy bags to reduce micro fibers washing out and entering the water systems
  • We will, at all times, abide by the Mariners code and comply with RNLI advice on labeling kit, being visible at sea and comply with marine protocols for visiting islands with sensitive coastal erosion and marine life.
